Pardon my lack of dust

That useless post

I’m out of town all week for work. I should have written this earlier, or more likely, I shouldn’t have written it at all. They say you’re not supposed to apologize, or something. I just hate to feel irresponsible and leave my blog unattended, like someone’s going to steal everything when they notice no one’s home. Anyway… see you when I get back.

And Clannad still sucks.

Decultural Update

Even lions lick… something, I dunno

So… hot on the heels of my survey to see what I should do with the domain yakkdeculture.com, I decided that rather than making it one thing, I’d turn it into a repository of all things Frontier (and probably Macross in general) that I or anyone else thinks of randomly. Except Ranka futanari, sorry, C.I.

The first project, Twittershippers, attempts to track the shipping trends in Frontier by searching Twitter for “alto + ranka” and “alto + sheryl.” I wanted to do a search just for Ranka and Sheryl, but unfortunately Sheryl is, you know, a regular name in English-speaking countries. So who’s winning? I dunno, but a quick examination of the content of these Twitter messages (”tweets,” as they’re officially and stupidly known) points to Sheryl. Who knew? But it’s proven to me that Ranka fandom is much stronger than Sheryl fandom (and Ranka fans’ hatred of Sheryl is just plain bonkers), as if you didn’t know that already.

In unrelated news, my 500th comment has quietly come and gone. That’s a pretty decent landmark for me, and I’m happy as a clam that anyone wants to come and talk about silly cartoon stuff on my silly blog. The honor belongs to Omisyth, for this miscellaneous comment on a miscellaneous post.

Joining 9Rules

Not exactly selling out to the man, but still trying

(Cue Professor Farnsworth voice) Good news, everyone!

This is a funny development indeed. Back in the day (not incredibly far back, of course), I suppose I technically competed with 9rules. I always had respect for them, though, because while we ended up being very successful in one sense, they always seemed to do well while maintaining an air of independence. You could more accurately call them a coalition or a collective than a blog network, per se. Plus, it’s impossible as a designer not to respect Mike Rundle, even if he does like rounded corners more than I do.

Well, fast forward a couple years, 9rules kind of dropped off the radar for a while but are resurfacing in a new revamped form, and I’m pleased to announce that I will be part of it. They were looking to expand their anime vertical, and according to Kabitzin, who brought this to the otakusphere’s attention in the first place, the number of anime blogs has tripled on 9rules. He’s got the official list at the post I linked. I don’t imagine much will change here, but if I’m lucky it’ll be good for a new reader or two.

No matter what, it’s fantastic to be in great company like Cruel Angel Theses, THAT, and Drastic.

Also, there are things a-brewin’ in my head, but not quite fully formed yet. Post is forthcoming. Follow me on Twitter to get undeveloped and dangerous thoughts, unfiltered, in 140 characters or less, usually randomly spat out while eating sushi.
